City of Encinitas

Leucadia Streetscape and the El Portal rail undercrossing, 2021–2022

Streetscape 101 – 18 Oct 2022

The last progress flight over the City of Encinitas' Leucadia Streetscape on North Coast Highway 101, 18 October 2022: the finished Phase 1 corridor. 4 min 3 s.

We flew the City of Encinitas' Leucadia Streetscape and the El Portal rail undercrossing on a recurring schedule through construction, under FAA Part 107. The flights followed Phase 1 of North Coast Highway 101, from Encinitas Boulevard to Basil Street.

Each flight was edited into a progress film of about four minutes. The City used the films in its progress updates to the City Council and to the community.

The Coast News covered the projects as construction went on.

Earlier flights: 15 Aug 2021, 28 Sept 2021, 21 Oct 2021, 25 June 2022.

What we do for agencies

  • Capital projects and construction progressDrone flights on a schedule through construction, the same angles from the same heights on every visit, with timelapse and before-and-after cut from them.
  • Facilities, parks and infrastructurePhotography of buildings, parks, streets and public works, from the ground and the air.
  • Events and ribbon cuttingsOpenings, groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, with the time-sensitive images turned around first.
  • Video for council, the community and socialProgress films for council presentations and community updates, and cuts sized for social.
  • Aerial work in controlled airspaceFlown under FAA Part 107 and insured. We check the FAA airspace for the site and file the authorization ourselves before the date. Where the ceiling is 400 feet it comes back in minutes through LAANC; where it is zero, the FAA takes about three days.
  • Websites, through Sūdenim DigitalBuilt to WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard the federal ADA Title II web rule points to, and fast on a phone. The agency owns the site and its staff edit it.

The web side is Sūdenim Digital. The photography, video and drone work is the same as for every client: all services.

Another was licensed to Gensler for its 2025 AIA San Diego design awards submission. The award belongs to the building; the picture was chosen to represent it.
  • Sean Workman, who runs the studio, spent 2008 to 2020 in commercial real estate marketing at Cassidy Turley, DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield. As Creative Technology Director at Cushman & Wakefield he led design and layout for the firm's global intranet and developed in-house digital tools used across the firm.
